Kingdom, UK Bodies Sign Heritage Accord

The British-based Prince's Foundation for the Built Environment and the Prince's School of Traditional Arts signed with Al-Turath Establishment an agreement of cooperation aimed at the promotion and preservation of traditional arts and architecture in London on Tuesday.

Prince Charles and Secretary-General of Supreme Commission for Tourism Prince Sultan ibn Salman, who is also chairman of the Al-Turath Establishment, were present at the signing of the agreement.

Speaking on the occasion, Prince Sultan said: "Al-Turath Establishment adopted a strategy based on active cooperation and partnership with all the parties interested in the preservation and development of heritage.

The Turath cooperates with Saudi, Arab and international establishments such as Prince's Foundation for the Built Environment and the Prince's School of Traditional Arts.

Prince Sultan underscored the importance of the agreement as it stipulated conducting joint programs in the area of heritages and giving a human face to urban environment. "This cooperation would also cover all the areas related to the architectural heritage and traditional arts," Prince Sultan said.

Prince Sultan founded the Al-Turath Establishment with the aim of promoting Arab and Islamic architectural heritage besides the protection of the region's urban heritage, according to a press statement yesterday.
